Supporting MU Undergraduates
Ranging from first-year scholarships to four-year scholarship packages, the Kinder Institute is dedicated to supporting incoming students who are studying–or who have already spent a summer studying–on the fourth floor of Jesse Hall.
All scholarship applications for incoming students open each year in October. FIG scholarships have an early deadline of December 1 and a regular deadline of February 1, while Wall Scholarships have a deadline of January 15.
First-Year FIG Scholarships
All full participants in the Kinder Institute’s Democracy Lab FIG are eligible to apply for first-year scholarships that are awarded based either on need or merit. Full participant criteria include enrollment in the core three-credit hour seminars in both the fall and spring, fall enrollment in the one-credit hour proseminar and Global History of the Civil War lecture, and active participation in extracurricular events associated with the FIG.
Four-Year Wall Scholarships
Past participants in the Kinder Institute’s high school Constitutional Democracy Academy who sign up for the Democracy Lab FIG are invited to apply for one of four Wall Scholarships given out each year. Wall Scholarships provide four years of funding at $5,000 per year, along with bespoke mentorship and professional development opportunities, invitations to serve as an RA at Constitutional Democracy Academy, and an out-of-town all-cohort field trip.
Other Kinder Institute Funding Opportunities
All students who go on to participate in other Kinder Institute programs, like our undergraduate Oxford Summer School or Kinder Scholars DC Summer Program, are eligible to apply for scholarships that help offset the extra costs associated with those opportunities. Additionally, first-year students are encouraged to apply for ASH Scholars research teams over the summer before they arrive on campus, which come with a $3,000 scholarship each year they are an active ASH participant.
