Biography

Chuck Wall was born in St. Louis on May 1, 1945. He received his BA from Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa in May 1967, and his JD degree from the University of Missouri School of Law in June 1970.

From 1970 until June 1990, he practiced law as an associate, and later as a partner, with the firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon in Kansas City. In June 1990, he joined Philip Morris Companies (now Altria Group Inc.) as Vice President and Associate General Counsel. In May 1995, he became Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. In February 2000, Chuck became Senior Vice President and General Counsel.

Chuck became Vice Chairman of Philip Morris International on March 28, 2008, following the spinoff of Philip Morris International from Altria. In November of that year, he assumed the additional position of General Counsel, serving in that capacity until February 28, 20210. He retired as Vice Chairman in June 2010.

Since retiring, Chuck has served as Chair of the Board of Directors of the New York City Opera (2011-2013); Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Center of Theological Inquiry located in Princeton, NJ (2011 – present); a member of the Board of Directors of the African Wildlife Foundation located in Nairobi, Kenya and Washington, D.C. (2011 – present); and a member of the Board of Trustees of Theatre Aspen (2018 – present). Chuck lives in Aspen, Colorado.
