Clare Byers

Biography

Clare Byers is a Postdoctoral Fellow of Political History at the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy, where she teaches courses on early American history, British history, and intellectual history. Her research interests include history of science and technology, book history, and print culture. She is currently working on a project that is an intellectual and environmental history entitled Forgotten Journeys: The French Bestsellers that Shaped American Exploration.

Clare holds a Ph.D. in History and an M.S. in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, an M.A. in Early Modern History from King’s College London, an M.Litt. in History of the Book from University of Saint Andrews, and a B.S. in History from the U.S. Naval Academy. Before returning to graduate school, Clare was a public librarian. She is a native of Saint Louis, Missouri, and is grateful to return home to teach at Mizzou.
