Jared Kazik Asser

Biography

Jared Kazik Asser is a Postdoctoral Fellow of Political History at the Kinder Institute, where he teaches on the constitutional history of Reconstruction and the history of the Early Republic, among other things. His research interests include the history of ideas, southern culture, and microhistory. At present, he is working on a book manuscript which explores the role of emotions in consolidating political power in the years following the Civil War.

He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Georgia, an M.A. (History) from Trent University, and a B.A. (History and Music) from Carleton University. His research has appeared in three edited collections, the most recent of which argued that southerners embraced anger as a politically useful emotion across the nineteenth century.

If he could talk to any historical figure, it would undoubtedly be a medieval French peasant.
