“Thinking Out Loud”: Kinder Institute Faculty on KBIA
A pair of Kinder Institute faculty members sat down during the Fall 2017 semester with our friends at Columbia-based NPR affiliate KBIA (91.3) to talk about projects they have in the works. On November 2, Kinder Institute Associate Professor of Constitutional Democracy Adam Seagrave and Chair of MU’s Black Studies Department Stephanie Shonekan were guests on “Thinking Out Loud” to talk about “Race and the American Story,” a one-credit hour undergraduate course they co-developed that will debut in Spring 2018 (interview link here). On November 19, Kinder Institute Chair in Constitutional Democracy Jay Sexton was back in the studio, visiting with KBIA’s Darren Hellwege on the launch of his “Global History at Oxford” study abroad course, his upcoming book on the past, present, and future of American democracy, and pedagogy in the undergraduate history classroom (link here).
We have a handful of interviews lined up with KBIA for the spring semester, starting in February with Western Washington Professor of History Johann Neem stopping by to discuss his recent book, Democracy’s Schools: The Rise of Public Education in America (Johns Hopkins University Press, 2017), which he will also give a February 15 talk about at 5:30pm in Mumford Hall 133.
